3 Reasons To Buy A Condo

When my youngest child moved out, I was left living in a large home by myself. Weekend visits from the grandchildren only filled the space part of the time. The home became more of a burden as each day passed. It was not until I was working with my real estate agent to sell my home and find a smaller home did I realize that there were so many others in the same position. I created this blog to help other empty nesters explore their options for downsizing and to provide guidance on finding a new home that fits in more with their lifestyle.

When searching for a new home, you are likely considering multiple options, from new construction to older homes. One option that you shouldn't overlook is buying a condo. Condos come with many of the benefits of other types of home ownership but without all of the hassles and drawbacks. Here are three of the biggest reasons to consider buying a condo.

1.  Condos Come With Amenities

One of the biggest reasons to buy a condo is that they typically belong to a community that comes with amenities and perks for owners. For example, your new condo may come with a clubhouse where you can play pool with friends and host parties, a dog park, a high-end gym (no more expensive gym memberships), and other appealing perks.

Some condo associations even come with tennis courts, swimming pools, or their very own golf course right in the community. Paying for all of these services individually would really add up, so getting them simply for being a condo owner is a great perk all-around.

2.  Condos Make Life Easier

Most condos come as part of a Homeowner's Association or similar. In exchange for a monthly fee, you will receive services that home owners outside of the community do not receive.

For instance, your condo association will likely plow your roads after snowstorms, maintain the landscape around and on your property, and may also shovel your driveway and sidewalk for you when it snows. You may get to participate in community meetings and vote on how these services are managed, giving you even more say in your quality of life.

3.  Condos Make Great Rental Properties

Renters who want a beautiful, well-maintained place to live without having to do much of the lawn work or upkeep themselves tend to love living in condos. This is especially true if your condo is purchased in a desirable area.

Your renter will also be able to enjoy the condo's amenities, making the condo even more appealing. If you are looking at your condo as a long-term investment, remember that you can always rent it out for income in the future if you decide to move.

If these reasons sound appealing to you, be sure to look at condos for sale during your home search. You will also want to let your real estate agent know you are interested in condos so that they can include them in their searches of properties to show you.
