Why Live In A Duplex Style Apartment

When my youngest child moved out, I was left living in a large home by myself. Weekend visits from the grandchildren only filled the space part of the time. The home became more of a burden as each day passed. It was not until I was working with my real estate agent to sell my home and find a smaller home did I realize that there were so many others in the same position. I created this blog to help other empty nesters explore their options for downsizing and to provide guidance on finding a new home that fits in more with their lifestyle.

Do you want to live in a single-family home, but are not ready to commit to such a big purchase? One potential solution to this problem is to rent a duplex apartment. These apartments look like single-family homes, but the space is divided in the middle so that two families can live in the same structure. Here are a few advantages that they can provide over a regular apartment.

Living Space

You'll find that duplex apartments can have a lot of living space within them, with the two levels also providing some separation between the living areas. This prevents the apartment from being crammed into an existing floor plan where the space needs to be divided in odd ways. A duplex covers the same square footage as a large home in comparison, with both sides of the duplex typically being a mirror image.

Privacy

A duplex apartment is going to provide more privacy than a regular apartment. Within the apartment, this is due to the nature of having a space with two floors where separation can be made from living and bedroom areas. There is also more privacy because there is typically one shared wall between the units. You are not sharing floors and ceilings, which allows you to not worry about the noise you or other people are making.

Outdoor Space

Always wanted to have a garden? This is possible with an apartment duplex since you will have an outdoor space that is shared with a neighbor. Some people prefer to keep their outdoor space separate though, which makes decorating the entire exterior of a property complicated.

Storage

Did your apartment landlord only give you a small amount of square footage in the form of a storage locker? The lack of storage can make living in any home difficult, but it's especially true in an apartment where you don't have a lot of space. Duplex-style apartments may have attic, basement, or garage space where you can store items that you do not need right away and plan to get out of storage later. This can include holiday decorations, which are seasonal items that are pulled out once a year.

Unsure if living in an apartment duplex is right for you? Check out one in person so that you can get a feel for an apartment duplex for lease. You may find that it is the perfect solution to the problems you are having while finding the perfect place to live.
